Street Jazz
Street Jazz was born at a time when many clubs turned away from Disco, Funk and Jazz in order to "move with the times" Jazz Dancers were enabled to create their very own style of dance, which would challenge their ability to change with the new rhythms and "follow" the music. In addition, Dancers explored their acrobatic capabilities in so-called drop moves as well as a variety of floor work, often mistaken for Break Dance.
Street Jazz is a mix of fast, intricate footwork, spins and acrobatic floor moves. Definitely no 'Jazz Hands' here and a lot of people have their whole understanding of Jazz Dance turned upside down when they experience this for the first time.
The music we dance too is the latest chart toppers and a few classic numbers.
The beauty of Street Jazz is that it is totally flexible, lacking the rigidity of many other Dance styles. It is for this reason that it appeals to such a wide audience, especially young people. The words of `wrong' and 'technically incorrect', which we so often hear in Dance schools are rarely used within Street Jazz. As long as you have lots of energy, you will be on your way.
