REVIEW: The Fourth Annual Student Showcase 2008 18th, 19th June 2008

We were wowed, we were dazzled, we were moved. The 4th Annual Student Showcase yet again exceeded our very expectation.

With new dance genres being introduced and over
50 new students involved, this years number of performers reached an impressive 120. Academy Directors Joel and Sarah Chapman rose magnificently to the challenge of producing a show that continued the brilliance of the last 3 years, once again raising the bar even further.

The choice of music this year was awesome and the interpretation of the pieces, into beautiful, expressive movements of dance, was simply outstanding. From the minute the show opened with Sarah shimmering down the aisle in a silver diamond dress to meet Joel on stage to dance the cha cha, the scene was set for an unforgettable night.

There was a real sense of a crescendo building throughout the show, pieces like the Sailors Hornpipe ballet achieved rapturous applause and the sultry group rumba showed off the Latin groups at a very high standard. No-one though could have possibly imagined the spectacular finish that was waiting. Dancing to ‘I Surrender’ by Celine Dion, a selected group of dancers brought a completely breathtaking contemporary interpretation of the song to the stage. With special effects to support, the dance was simply perfect and left you reeling with emotion. The standard and professionalism of the presentation was confirmed by the reactions of the 950 strong audience members as they were leaving the building.
