Rock Academy of Dance

REVIEW: The 2nd Annual Student Showcase

July 14th and 15th, 2006

It was clear to see that this spectacular dance performance by the Rock Academy of Dance was a success for its students and teachers. Throughout this inspiring show, the choreography portrayed an unmistakable quality and creativity.

The show featured a range of dance disciplines which successfully complimented each other. The opening piece was the sizzling Samba where dancers began the piece by dancing through a waterfall of pyrotechnics. This impressive opening set the standard of the night and gave the audience a taster of what was to come. The students and teachers of the Academy then captivated the audience on a journey through graceful Ballet, dynamic Contemporary, stylish Street Jazz and classic Jive.

The walk up the red carpet into its lavishly decorated entrance set the scene for the spectators. All the staff were perfectly presented and greeted guests with the highest level of hospitality. The auditorium maintained the theme of the night displaying unique paintings of dancers and playing inspirational music. As the show commenced, the huge stage was brought alive by the lighting designs with sound and video production.

It was clear from the start that the dancers involved were trained to a very high standard, not only in technique, but in a way of performing and captivating large audiences. The presenter of the evening provided incites into each piece in a fun and efficient way and the costumes were faultlessly picked to match the style and genre of each dance.

As a result, all the hours of rehearsals and training really paid off and made this spectacular show one to remember. The Rock Church, who proudly sponsors the Academy, once again assisted in making the evening a success and continues to support the Academy to become a significant expression in the city.
