Rock Academy of Dance

Sarah Chapman

Sarah first attended the Rock Church when she was ten years old. Her dream of becoming a dancer started from the moment she saw the churches very own dance troop performing in its weekly events. After recovering from a chronic illness, Sarah attended regular classes and workshops at the Rock and before long found herself as an established member of the team. For the next few years, Sarah continued to develop in her new skill, attending local schools to further her understanding of dance.

Sarah began formal dance training in 1998 where she studied at Northern School of Contemporary dance in Leeds. Here she gained a fundamental knowledge of her body enabling her for further training.

She then progressed to study dance in Newcastle on the HND course at Dance City giving her the opportunity to work with both national and international artists.

On Completion, Sarah took an additional year at Northumbria University gaining a BA Hons in dance. Sarah’s passion for teaching led her to being employed by York College where she now works teaching A level and BTEC dance and is responsible for the running of
the department.

Alongside teaching, Sarah studied
an additional two years to gain her Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Not totally abandoning
her own development,

Sarah partners Joel in Latin American and currently trains with World champions and 'Strictly Come Dancing' professionals, Matthew &
Nicole Cutler.

This has given her a high degree of technical understanding and valuable experience. Sarah teaches evening and private classes at the Academy in Contemporary, Ballet, Body Conditioning and Latin. She plays an active role alongside Joel in the choreography and directing of
the Academy.
