Who’s Opinion Counts?
Comments by Francesca Penty
Isn’t it amazing how many coincidences happen when you believe in God?!
On New Year’s Eve I got an anonymous phone call. It was from someone who wanted to bring me down for whatever reason. For a few days it unsettled me as my mind kept wandering back to it, to what I could have done to make this person feel this way about me. Nobody likes to feel ‘unliked’ but sometimes people simply choose not to like us. When we are called to follow a path that may be against mainstream opinion it can be hard to deal with other peoples remarks and misunderstanding. Proverbs 29:25 tells us that ‘The fear of human opinion disables, trusting in God protects you from that’.
Tonight Jenny Byrne talked about how David faced opposition when he said he could defeat Goliath. His friends, brothers and even his king told him he was wrong but his faith was unswerving. The only giant in David’s life was his God. He was so sure in his calling he didn’t even wear the armour given to him and chose his own unconventional weapon to kill Goliath. The answer then is to do as David did and make God the biggest thing in our lives. Whatever comes along to knock us we can be confident that He is walking alongside and we will not be left to face it alone and, it goes without saying, He thinks we’re all superstars!
