Disable Your Miser
Comments by Francesca Penty
Chris talked about disabling our miser, could it be as easy as switching off an annoying computer program, do we have a choice not to feel miserable then?
Miserable is not a thing that is happening to us it’s a response we choose to make. We don’t need to hold onto this needy, kill joy spirit. I imagine misery as a virus infecting our body’s cells as a miserable person infects the people around them. Why if it is so nasty do we cling to it then? Does it make us feel special, unique, too complex to be understood, or is it rather that without it we will have to face moving forward into the unknown?
Striving in vain and being left feeling unfulfilled is often when misery creeps in, but if we put our efforts into knowing God He promises that He will take care of all things for us. When God is in us there is simply no room for misery.
It is a daily battle to keep God upfront in our lives and not allow the bad stuff in life to crowd out our joy. At 7am on a cold, dark frosty morning, with packups, school runs, dog walking and chores ahead it can take a few seconds to get my head in the right place but I know every day that I’m loved, forgiven and blessed and that anything can happen in this new day. It is then that I choose to rejoice in the day and manage a small spring into action!
