Halloween has just been and the dilemma of should we / shouldn’t we take part, has come back with it. Is it ‘just a bit of fun’ or is there something more sinister lurking....

There are instances in the Bible of witches, astrologers, evil and familiar spirits so the question is not whether these things are real but rather are they right?

Often when we turn to such things it is in an attempt to protect ourselves from an uncertain present and future. It stems from insecurity within us, from an empty place which only God can fill. If we are searching for the ‘truth’ then God will meet us where we are but if it is merely knowledge we are seeking we will be left unfulfilled.

This week in Comm Life, Anth, recounted a story of a man staying in a hotel where a famous fortune teller was also staying. After dinner, each guest at had had their palm read apart from this one man. When asked if he would like to take his turn and have his future read his answer was “my future is not determined by the lines on my hands, but by the marks bore on His”. What an awesome thought!

Kabod is a Hebrew word meaning Glory. In Isaiah 6:3 we are told we are surrounded by it and it can be found in the entire world. If we allow this to flow into our lives and very spirit we can find peace to face each day as it comes and the strength to break from anything that has an unhealthy hold on us.
