Jericho

Comments by Francesca Penty

I‘ve had a couple of ‘Jericho’s’ of my own in my lifetime. The options I had were should I face them head on, leave them alone and hope they fade away or deal with them in God’s time in His way. To be honest the last option did not cross my mind on the first situation as I was bumbling along on my own not realising help was only a conversation away. In the second scenario instead of rushing in following my instincts to attack I found myself actually praising God despite it all. I was quite surprised I found myself doing this. I imagine the Israelites must have felt similar to me when God told them not to attack the walls of Jericho, nor skulk round the edge and bypass it, but circle it praising God and making as much noise in doing so as possible.

For me my first situation was eventually resolved when I asked God to help me with it. The second was spectacularly resolved, smashed to the ground as the walls of Jericho were. To attack would have taken its toll on us both, leading to destruction, hurt and loss. By following God’s plan for us we survive, grow in areas we didn’t know we were lacking in, receive blessings on our life and God’ glory is revealed in the outcome.
