Hope, Believe, Become

Comments by Francesca Penty

As we go through life, even those of us who say we have no faith in God, put our faith in something: be it a set of values, a moral code, an addiction, person or other. It is when ‘stuff happens’ in our lives that we find out if any of these things were worth the energy we stored in them.

In The NIV, Hebrews 6:19-20 we are told that hope is the anchor to our soul and in The Message that hope is a spiritual lifeline to God past all appearances.

This week in Comm Life, Anth, our leader, talked about there being a process beginning with hope that leads to belief and finally to becoming. That without hope we drift from one thing to another, and get on collision courses. Grasping hope is the first step in breaking free from fear, addictions, unhappy circumstances, depression and to leading the happy, free, whole, purpose-driven lives we were made for.

Hope pays no attention to current circumstances; it is beyond and above any obstacle. It gives us a glimpse of what can be. It is not bound by worldly rules but brings us God’s promise ‘There’s More’! There’s no limit to what God can do so why put restrictions on your life when you are designed to be free?

Even though situations are not instantly transformed when hope is introduced, a goal of a new life is in sight along with the knowledge that we are moving towards it with unrivalled power and love on our side.
