Be Good or Be Real, But Please Don't Pretend

Tonight Chris talked about how as human beings we are all in charge of our own lives. How we look after our bodies, where we go, what we believe in and what or who we give power to. We have our own little kingdom of ‘us’ that we rule over. By giving up control of our lives to God we don’t lose out but in fact gain hugely as we enter His kingdom. Within this new kingdom we can find freedom from all the stresses and strains of life in the 21st century.

Chris mentioned Matthew 6:28-30 which talks about how if God takes care to dress the lilies of the field, won’t He take care of our needs? This made me laugh as last week I’d been reminded of this verse whilst failing miserably to live in Gods kingdom. I was stressing over finances involved in moving house even though I’d told myself loads of times it wasn’t important. Anyway, we’d given a friend some furniture and she’d sent us £100 of GAP vouchers. I’d never had that much given to me to spend frivolously, and with strict instruction not to spend in the kids section. It brought home that I was always provided for, even more so when later the same day I logged into my email account to find GAP had sent me a 30% off voucher to print out.

We get so bound up in life: things that have shaped us, our upbringings, hurts we’ve harboured, behaviours we’ve learnt, at times it can seem impossible to imagine living in total freedom but I’ll happily merge my little kingdom for a stake in one beyond my wildest dreams.
